Photo Scanning in Canberra

Family albums, slide carousels, boxes of prints nobody has looked at in thirty years - digitised properly, in Canberra, by a person rather than a bulk feeder. You hand the originals over in Fyshwick and collect them from the same counter. They do not get freighted interstate, and they do not get sorted by a machine that cannot tell a fragile print from a sturdy one.

Your originals stay in Canberra

Most scanning services that appear in a Canberra search are mail-in operations. You pack the only copy of your grandmother's wedding photographs into a satchel, hand them to a courier, and they travel to a warehouse in another state to be fed through a production scanner at volume.

Often that is fine. When it is not fine, it is unrecoverable - and the things people most want digitised are exactly the things that cannot be reprinted if the parcel goes missing.

We are in Fyshwick, so there is a third option: bring the box in, talk through what is in it, and pick it up again when the work is done. For anything irreplaceable, that alone is usually the deciding factor. If driving in is impractical, we still scan for clients across the country by post - see photo scanning by post - but for a Canberra household there is rarely a reason to post something you could carry.

How a Canberra scanning project runs

Every photograph is captured individually by an imaging specialist on a professional archival scanner - not batch-fed. That is slower and it is the point: a specialist notices the print that is curling, the one stuck to its neighbour, the album page that should be lifted rather than pulled.

Projects carry an $80 setup cost covering the administrative side - handling your files, backing them up, preparing delivery and answering questions along the way - and the per-item cost falls as quantity rises, so a single shoebox and a whole house's worth of albums are priced quite differently. Typical turnaround is 10-20 working days depending on size.

Finished files come back as digital downloads, or on a USB drive or SSD if you would rather hold something physical. We do not accept client-supplied drives - using our own high-speed devices keeps the copy and verification step short, which keeps the cost of that step down.

If some of the photographs are damaged, faded or torn, they can be restored from the same capture without a second trip - see photo restoration in Canberra.
